Privacy policy

In force from [À COMPLÉTER: LEGAL_EFFECTIVE_DATE]. [À COMPLÉTER: LEGAL_OPERATOR], [À COMPLÉTER: LEGAL_ADDRESS], is responsible for the data of Dounia News. We collect only what is needed and never sell your data. The French text prevails.

1. If you do not sign in

You can read the site without an account. We count clicks to publishers and advert displays anonymously: your IP address and browser are used to compute a fingerprint that changes every day and cannot recognise you or follow you from one day to the next. The IP address itself is not stored.

We use no third-party analytics, no advertising cookies and no outside ad network.

2. If you sign in

Signing in goes through Comptes Dounia. We receive and keep your name, your email address and an identifier from Comptes Dounia. We receive no password and no phone number. The policy of Comptes Dounia applies to your account.

We also keep what you do on the site: the articles you save and the stories you follow, so we can show them to you.

3. Cookies

One cookie keeps you signed in (“dn_session”, 30 days, for the site only and never readable by a script). Two temporary cookies (“dn_next” and “dn_app”, 10 minutes) remember where you came from during sign-in. They are strictly necessary and need no consent. No cookie is used for advertising or tracking.

4. What the data is used for

Running the service (account, saved articles, followed stories), counting visits per article, outlet and story, showing sponsors the number of displays and clicks of their adverts, protecting the site from robots and abuse, and improving it.

Sponsors only receive totals, never data about a person.

5. How long

Individual visits and advert clicks (without IP address, with the day’s fingerprint) are deleted after 90 days; only the daily totals are kept. Detected robots keep their browser identifier so they can be spotted.

Account data stays as long as the account exists; sign-in tokens expire after 30 days. You can delete your account at any time from the “My account” page: deletion is immediate and permanent.

6. Who receives the data

Our technical providers: hosting and domain name management (DigitalOcean), which by nature see visitors’ IP addresses, and Comptes Dounia for sign-in. They use the data only to provide us the service. The publishers and sponsors you click through to have their own policies, for which we are not responsible.

Your data may be processed outside Burkina Faso, in countries that do not always offer the same level of protection; we limit these transfers to what hosting and delivery require.

7. Your rights

You can ask for access to your data, its correction or deletion, or object to a processing, by writing to support@dounia.net. We answer within a reasonable time, and at most within one month.

If you think your rights are not respected you can contact the personal data protection authority of Burkina Faso (the CIL).

8. Security and minors

Sign-in tokens are only stored in hashed form, exchanges use HTTPS and access to data is limited. No method is 100% safe: tell us if something is wrong.

The service is not meant for children: a minor must be accompanied by a parent or guardian to create an account.

9. Changes and contact

We may update this policy; the date at the top shows the version in force. Questions: support@dounia.net.
