About Dounia News

Dounia News gathers headlines and short summaries from media across francophone West Africa, and adds useful listings: jobs, events and classifieds. Every article links to the site that published it. Some services open gradually: the pages of the site show what is available today.

What we do

We follow a selection of news sites, group the articles about the same subject into “stories”, and sort them by topic. We do not copy articles: the reader is always sent to the original outlet, which keeps its audience.

Listings (jobs, events, classifieds) are published by individuals and organisations, and reviewed before or after publication depending on the trust given to the advertiser. Asking for money to apply is forbidden.

For readers (free)

Read the news by topic, by outlet or by story, on a fast page that works well on a phone.

With a free account: save articles, follow stories, create keyword alerts, receive a daily summary by e-mail, and write to advertisers without showing your e-mail address.

Use cases: someone abroad who follows what is happening back home every morning; a student who watches for competitions and scholarships with an alert; a journalist who finds every article on one subject in one place.

For people looking for a job, an event or a good deal

Browse job offers, events (with add-to-calendar) and classifieds, filter by city and type, then write to the advertiser from the site. The advertiser never sees your e-mail address and you never see theirs; you can report an abusive message or close a conversation.

For businesses, associations and organisers

Publish job offers, events and classifieds for free, see how many people viewed them, clicked a contact link or replied, and answer messages from an inbox.

Use cases: a small company hiring an accountant in Ouagadougou; an association announcing a conference in Bobo-Dioulasso; a shop selling second-hand equipment; an agency preparing a fair that needs a full room.

Paid services, and when they help

Nothing paid is needed to read or to publish. Paid options are for people who want more comfort or more visibility, and they open one by one. Nothing is charged automatically: you pay for a period, and access stops when it ends.

Premium access (readers): no adverts, a daily summary at the hour you choose, unlimited saved articles, more alerts and instant alerts. Useful for people who follow the news every day for work: monitoring for a company, an NGO or a firm.

Featured listing (advertisers): your listing is shown first with a “Featured” label for 7, 14 or 30 days. Useful for an urgent hire, an event whose date is close, or a sale that must move fast. Places are limited for each kind of listing.

Publisher Plus (regular advertisers): more listings open at the same time. Useful for a recruitment firm, an events agency or a trader who publishes a lot.

API plans (developers and media): key-based access to articles, stories and categories, with a daily request quota. The free tier is for testing; paid tiers serve an app, a partner site, a monitoring tool or research work. Terms of use are on the developers page.

Advertising and sponsorship (businesses): ad placements and sponsorship of the daily summary, to reach a local audience of readers. Write to us to talk about it.

Our rules

We always link to the source. We do not sell personal data and we do not offer a data export: an account can be deleted at any time. Listings that ask for money, duplicates and misleading content are refused or removed.
